Band Parents!

Hello All! It’s that time of year again, Marching Season!  We are looking forward to an amazing year with the Mighty Tomcat Band.  As boosters, we provide funds, equipment, meals, competition awards and a host of other things.  We rely on the support of each one to make the Booster Club successful for the Band members.    We are in need of concession stand worker volunteers and parents/friends to provide meals for the students on Fridays before games.

First, the concession stand at all Friday night home games is our responsibility and one of our main fund raisers.  It takes 5-6 adults to work it.   Please check the schedule below and volunteer to work!   All volunteers are greatly appreciated!  If you are willing to help, put your name beside the dates at return the email.  I will send a ‘master’ schedule before our first home game.

Please, pick a date (s)  and provide a meal.  In the past, parents have combined and provided meals together.  Meals should be delivered to the band hall at a specific time which will be determined before each game.

DCI Coming to Tom Bean!

We have an awesome opportunity on Wednesday July 20th. The GENESIS Drum & Bugle Corps, a DCI performing group, will be spending the day rehearsing at Tom Bean High School. All band students and community members are invited to come by some time during the day to see this amazing group of musicians prepare for a competition the next day as part of the southern part of their summer tour. The group will be arriving around 3:30am, and will depart around 11:00pm the same day. Any time mid morning until late at night, the members of GENESIS will be rehearsing in various outdoor locations around the campus.

Drum Corps International (DCI) is “marching music’s Major League.” Students aged 13-22 from all across the world audition for a membership in one of the fifty DCI corps each year. Students learn music, and begin rehearsals in the late fall or early winter. Rehearsals continue throughout the school year at weekend camps, until it’s time for summer move in at the end of the school year. Students then spend the entire summer touring around the country performing nearly every night in NFL, NCAA, and HS stadiums across the country in hopes of earning a spot in the DCI World Championships held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis in mid-August. To learn more about DCI and its competing corps, watch the video below! We hope you can some out to see the group

All-Region Music Now Available!

If you will be in MS Advanced Band, or HS Band this coming school year, please take a look at your All-Region music on the website.

Look under “Student Resources” at the top of this page, and click on your instrument. You will find separate listings for MS and HS All-Region scales and etudes. We’ll all be working on these in class, as well as in group sectionals once school starts. The audition date is December 2nd for MS, and December 5th for HS, so even though the music may look difficult, we have plenty of time to learn it.

PS – If you play HS Bass Clarinet or HS Percussion, your etudes come from books we had to order and they haven’t arrived yet. As soon as they do, we’ll get your music posted.

Marching Show Music!

Happy summer everyone!

Hope you have been enjoying your break from school and are having tons of fun this summer.

I wanted to let you know that I have posted a link to download the sheet music for our show on the band website. Just look in the top right hand corner of this page and click on “Marching Band Music” on the menu bar. You will find a link for each individual part, except for percussion. It’s all in one big file, and those parts will be changed based on how many drum line and pit members we have once band camp starts.

Speaking of band camp, check out the schedule for band camp by clicking on the calendar link as well. We have some activities coming up at the end of this month, and will have something every week in the month of August, plus there are a few changes, so be sure check those changes out!

See you soon!

Mr. Stidham

Branson Trip: Day 2

Day two of the band trip was interesting, to say the least, and full of surprises, but was still tons of fun!
Most of the day was spent at Silver Dollar City which shows the way life was in the Ozarks during the late 1800s. There was the annual Bluegrass & BBQ Festival as well. Fantastic musical performances everywhere we went! And if you twist their arm, I think the students would admit they enjoyed the roller coasters too.

We wrapped up the evening with lots of pizza (thank you Band Boosters!), swimming, and card games.

Today we are headed to Indian Point for some Zipline fun!

Branson Trip: Day 1

Fantastic first day of our band trip! Today the students toured the Titanic museum, seeing artifacts from the ship and learning its history, and about the time period.

The Titanic museum also had a special exhibit about the musicians aboard the Titanic. If you don’t know about these brave men, you should do a quick Google search. The students were able to view the most expensive artifact from the ship, which just so happens to be the violin of the band leader. It was recovered with his body a few days after the wreck. It was recently purchased at auction for $1.7 million.
Tomorrow we are off to Silver Dollar City to again see a different way of life from a different time, to hear the Annual Bluegrass Festival, and have some fun!
